The main part of this environment is the grates and how they look. They are suppose to look like pokeballs and allow someone to see the water below. These grates also happen to be a kind of focal point to the actual design of the stadium because the rest is somewhat simplistic. So I wanted to make sure I got these right. I originally attempted to model all the detail in and quickly realized how silly that would be. It would produce too much geometry for something I could achieve with some textures. So I made the grates a simple plane. Using a simple UV trick I made all the grates curve cleanly and shifted the UVs so the wouldn't look the same.
